Devon S. Blowers is a Paris-based American artist born in California. She studied Fine Arts and Fashion Design at Parsons Paris, receiving her BFA in 2021, followed by a Master of Science in Luxury Business Management from Sup de Luxe in 2023. Her practice centers on painting and illustration, drawing from formative experiences, dreams, childhood memories, and symbolic language. Working between the personal and the archetypal, she creates vibrant, surreal portraits and narrative scenes that explore identity, memory, perception, and the psychological landscapes that shape our understanding of ourselves and others.

“My work is an excavation of formative experiences, dreams, visions and childhood memories in search of emotional truth rather than factual certainty. Emotions and their triggers are a shifting portrait of the self and the past that shaped it, the source vibrancy and color. Cartoons, fairy tales, scary stories, and growing pains inform the dreamy vignettes of my unsettling circus of characters, each an archetype of a formative life lesson. My mission is to tear back the layers, see what is an outline of something else, record the shifting images in the clouds, to witness something or someone in the periphery.

The web of narrative memory surrounding who we are, who we were, and who we are capable of becoming can be entirely fictional, whether corrosive or fantastically delusional. Recognizing identity as a tapestry woven from the influence of others on our external and internal worlds, my work intertwines the personal with the universal: the symbolic, psychological, and spiritual landscapes we all inhabit. The gaze and pareidolia integrated into each work represent the spiritual; an ever-present sense of observation, a perception of behavior that cannot be defined as simply internal nor societal.”
